Security-Camera DVR
Syracuse Paranormal utilizes multiple types of DVR systems in which security camera footage is recorded into a built in hard-drive. DVR systems vary in terms of space, OS, functionality, encoding, I/O's, etc. The particular DVR system that is currently utilized often by SP is the MINIDVR-250. This particular system boosts a high-quality MPEG4 video, four channel BNC or RCA input, an output connection to both BNC/RCA or VGA, a network connection to an external computer, an "always-on" recording mode when a camera is detected (making it difficult to disrupt video recording), a view-feature of video while video is still being recorded, and more. This system is the corner-stone of our video input technology.

Security-Infrared Cameras
To pair up with our security DVR are security cameras. These specialty cameras are designed for total darkness as they come equipped with multiple IR (infrared) LED's which beam out pure infrared onto an area. This spectrum of light is invisible to the naked eye but is picked up as visible light to the camera. This allows the camera to detect anomalies in video in 0 lux.

EMF Detector
This tool is used to detect electronic magnetic fields in an area. These fields are found naturally throughout an area, especially with many electronic devices present. Detecting high levels of EMF can explain a large portion of paranormal claims as the side effects from exposure to these fields can lead to nausea, fatigue, headaches, itchy skin, uneasiness, paranoia. Stronger pro-longed exposure over years can develop into rashes, skin defects, and even some types of cancer.

KII Meter
KII meters are similar to the EMF Detector as they report EMF fluctuations, but are much less precise. Instead of giving an exact decimal value, these devices will light up depending on how much EMF is present. KII's are an effective tool when initially attempting to find EMF areas, then recording the exact amount with the EMF as they are easily detected with the LED light announcements. KII's have also been seen to document paranormal emf activity as they can light up without explanation in an area that has no natural EMF source. Powerful evidence of EMF activity can be intelligent as if questions can be asked and the KII will respond with an exact set of lights being lit up. EMF fluctuations are unknown.

Mini-DV Camcorder
While our security system is the most effective video evidence we have, mobile video is also vital for those hard to reach areas or those that are too far away to connect. Mini-DV provides a much higher-quality video as well. The drawback is that there is limited battery and tape life. The IR beam also on the Camcorder is very limited.

IR Illuminator
To compensate for the lack of IR on a MiniDV, an IR Illuminator allows us to attach more IR beam to the camera. This turns a weak IR video into a moderate IR video that can be used for station security footage or mobile footage.

IR Thermometer
Not to be confused with a thermal cam, the IR thermometer allows us to instantly see the temperature of a surface. A thermal cam is essentially hundreds of these IR thermometers that get converted into an image. This particular IR thermometer allows us to see the temperature of a surface to determine and document its relevance to claims of activity. This is very valuable to determine if there are any leakages in temperature to cracks in walls or windows to create cold drafts.

Digital Audio
The corner stone to EVP collecting, digital audio records the ambient sound in an area then can convert it to an audible decibel value that you can replay in a computer. Software allows us to track the wave-lengths of the audio to determine any anomalies. Such anomalies are heard only on the replay back due to the voice/sound being inaudible to our ears at the time it was sounded.

Sony Camera
A typical camera that is used to document still images from cases. Evidence typically does not appear in cameras and most claims that do appear are usually false by camera shutter speeds and fluctuations in light. However, some interesting evidence has appeared and thus these devices are used. They can also be used to document specific areas or objects as a reference to go back to during analysis, or to show where a particular object is.

Thermal Camera
The most expensive piece of equipment thus far. A thermal camera uses hundreds of IR thermometers to construct an image based entirely of thermal signatures. This method of video completely ignores all spectrums of light and instead creates a picture purely of heat-signatures Thermal cameras are effective for documenting the area temperature as well as finding unknown sources of heat that can attribute to paranormal activity.
